Who Will Tell the People? click here to read article

Op-Ed Columnist Thomas Friedman is one of our most distinguished journalists. There are some who feel he is too imperialist for their tastes and that is fair. But he travels the world and ,unlike our leaders, seeks out different perspectives in an intellectually honest attempt to understand the world. As a journalist he cannot endorse candidates for office. But the following, in its diagnosis of America's ills, comes pretty darn close.

We need the truth. Who is going to tell us the truth? After the this long campaign we have arrived at the crux of the matter. I want the candidate who tells the truth. I want the candidate who will enlist the dormant energy of the American people. I want Barack Obama for President.

I too would like to see Obama win the election. But I'm cynical enough to think that it won't happen. The "truth" in todays culture seems to be Leninesque. "Tell a lie often enough and it becomes the truth" An alarming number of our citizens get their "news" from Fox News and folks like Limbaugh etc.
We do indeed live in scary times and not all of it has to do with terrorism. Just my two cents.

Sadly, you are oh so right that the tactic of saying something over and over again somehow is perceived as the truth. However, I am still optimistic that Barack will overcome these challenges and be able to play the game well enough to get elected without having to be in the gutter with them.
